Precipitation may continue in Arkansas through Thursday with considerable cloudiness and scattered to numerous showers. Locally heavy thunderstorms are expected today, becoming less numerous tonight and Tuesday. The extended outlook calls for a chance of more showers.
The brief covers western Arkansas rainfall from a stationary front and upcoming front activity with highs in the 80s and nightly 60s, listing rainfall amounts in Little Rock and surrounding areas. A Bright 67 of Fulton died Monday in a local hospital after a life in mercantile work and farming. Survived by wife Maude Kesner Bright, three stepsons, a daughter, five sisters, a brother, 18 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and other relatives. Funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hern don Funeral Home with burial in Harmony cemetery. Carl Norwood 74 of Route 1 Hope died Sunday in a local hospital. Retired mechanic. Survived by Eva Lee Norwood, a daughter Augusta Carraway, a brother Jack Norwood, a sister Ada Havenn. Service 2 p.m. Tuesday at Anderson Union Baptist Church Hope, burial in Anderson cemetery guided by Herndon Funeral Home.
Russian actress Victoria Fyodorova and American Pan Am pilot Frederick Polly were privately wed by a local justice of the peace in Stamford Connecticut. Town Clerk Louis Clapes said Justice Loren Jaffe performed the ceremony and issued the license. Polly, 36, bases his home in Stamford.
Engineer John Hawkins told Hope Rotary Club at the Sheraton Inn that a 1958 59 search for a daily ten million gallon water source for Hope Magnolia and much of Southwest Arkansas led to forming the Southwest Arkansas Water District. Water from Millwood Reservoir could meet needs with a 30 million dollar route for treated water or 20 million for untreated. Government grants and bonds would fund the project, taking 3 5 years to complete. President Gerald Keith led the meeting and visiting Rotarian Herb Thomas of Holland Michigan attended.
Distribution of the 1975 Hope telephone directory will begin June 9 and continue through June 12. More than 13,870 copies will be distributed with Bodcan listings included. The cover features a color repro of a mockingbird on apple blossoms painted by Bill Perry.
All Around Town reports Hope Floral Slip closed for fire repair with a reopening notice to follow. A representative from the Arthritis Foundation Arkansas office in Little Rock will discuss starting a local chapter at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Douglas building. Twenty seven College of Business Administration students earned all A’s. 206 named to the Dean’s List for spring term, including Bill K Cox Jr of Fulton and William E Tolleson Jr of Hope. Obey all traffic laws.
The Bloodmobile returns to Hope for its fourth Hempstead County visit of the fiscal year on Monday June 16 and Tuesday June 17 from noon to 6 p.m. at the youth fellowship hall, First Baptist Church, corner of 3rd and Walnut. Chairman Charles Walker notes 616 units have been donated so far and urges civic clubs, churches, and businesses to promote the drive to meet county quota and ensure a steady blood supply for residents and hospitals.
