The forecast notes Friday will be cloudy and cooler. Showers and thunderstorms will end in Arkansas from the northwest Friday morning as a severe weather watch covered about two thirds of the state's 75 counties until noon. Heavy rain rolled through during the night.
Gusty surface winds and hail reported in Kansas and Missouri. Thunderstorm activity moved into northwest Arkansas before sunrise with continued warm temperatures expected. Friday partly cloudy, cooler. weekend generally dry with possible showers in extreme north Arkansas. Lows in 60s and highs in 80s across the state.
One person died and three were injured in a one vehicle accident on U.S. 70 sixteen miles northeast of Forrest City Arkansas. Randy Eugene Brown 20 of West Memphis was killed when the pickup veered off the shoulder struck a bridge railing and lay in a water-filled ditch. Driver Jimmy Dell Hall 18 of West Memphis was injured along with Debra Jean Flowers 18 and Teresa Ann Meeks 17, both of West Memphis.

After Ford veto override failure, a cheaper stimulus bill is set for introduction in Congress. Obituary notices report Wingfield D Stroud 60 of Malvern died Monday with services at Atkinson Funeral Chapel and burial at Shadowlawn Cemetery. Survivors include sons David and Mac Stroud and sisters Elizabeth Gilliam and Mary Stevenson. Also listed are Lorene Blount Key 41 of Hope and Edward I Helms 76 of Hope with services, burials, and surviving family members from Hope, Emmet, Camden, and Lewisville.
The state Republican party will air a five minute message Thursday night within a nationwide half hour program. State GOP Chairman Lynn Lowe of Texarkana will be featured. The program titled Republicans Are People Too includes interviews with Republicans nationwide about why they are Republicans.
