A cool front entered Arkansas Monday bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms mainly in the western and southern parts. The National Weather Service forecasts widely scattered thunderstorms today and again Wednesday with unsettled conditions across the state.
Weather Service notes a developing low pressure area over northeast Texas moving eastward into Arkansas, with reports of golf ball size hail in Russellville Hot Springs and Jacksonville. Rainfall totals include 0.23 inches in Fort Smith and 0.16 in Little Rock. highs mid 80s to mid 90s, lows 60s to 70s. Also mentions an experiment station rain total of 0.35 inches and a tomato origin note for Americans.
Los Angeles Times reporter Farr is jailed for five more days after defying Judge Charles Older by refusing to name sources for a Charles Manson murder story. Farr, previously jailed 46 days, cites journalistic ethics while Older accuses disregard for defendants' rights.
Heavy fighting persisted for the 14th day along the northern coast of South Vietnam below Da Nang. Saigon reported 113 North Vietnamese killed in clashes around Dai Loc and Duc Duc. Five government troops died and 32 were wounded. Reports said 500 or more government troops were missing after North Vietnamese overruns near Thuong Duc. The Communists shelled Thuong Duc with rockets and artillery. In Cambodia, government troops linked up with a bridge outpost north of Phnom Penh on the road to Muk Kampul.
The Little Rock Blood Center informs Bloodmobile chairman Haskell Jones that Penny Gary, Thomas Smith, and Elroy Wright have each given eight pints of blood and earn a one gallon pin awaiting at the Chamber of Commerce. Kinard Young and Ruby Crow have set pins, while new donors on the last trip receive new donor cards at the Chamber office per Mrs Alline Clause.

A Chicago based ABA committee urges repeal of laws criminalizing prostitution or solicitation by prostitutes. The resolution, to be considered at the ABA annual meeting, argues such laws discriminate against women and invade privacy and calls for decriminalizing solicitation to prostitution and removing moral double standards.
A tentative settlement halted a four week bus drivers strike disrupting 200000 daily riders in Oakland and surrounding counties. State conciliator Thomas Nicopoulos announced the deal pending a ratification vote by Amalgamated Transit Workers Division 192. Union officials expect buses rolling by Thursday as 800 buses idle return to service. George L Radcliffe, 96, former Maryland senator and Roosevelt associate, died in Baltimore on Monday.
Ausy Ross 85 of Nashville died Monday in a Nashville nursing home. Born November 22 1888 in Belton Arkansas he was a retired farmer and longtime member of Bingen United Methodist Church. Survived by wife Allie Montgomery Ross three sons Rosy Lee Ross James and Clarence Ross three daughters Virginia Manning Norma Broussard and Tressie Simpson a brother a sister ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday Latimer Funeral Chapel Nashville with Rev David Wilson and Rev J R Callicott officiating. Burial Ozan Cemetery Bingen.
