Rain likely for central and northern Arkansas today

The National Weather Service forecasts scattered thunderstorms this afternoon mainly in the central and northern portions of Arkansas. Rain chances run about 40 percent in the north and 30 percent in the central region.

Impeachment votes split among Atlantic City lawmakers

Representatives Maraziti Sandman and Mayne expressed mixed views on Nixon’s impeachment after the committee action. Sandman urged constitutional limits and predicted a slim House margin, while Maraziti warned of a close vote and Mayne cited the gravity of crimes by aides.

Senate vote on Jones issue unlikely to occur

Three leaders of the move to oust state Sen. Guy H Mutt Jones of Conway said Sunday they did not expect another vote on expelling Jones when the legislature reconvenes Thursday. Senators Walmsley Womack Caldwell Patterson noted the constitutional barrier and uncertain timing for a second judgment. Voluntary Action Center Planned Here in Hope

The Hope Junior Auxiliary plans a Voluntary Action Center to meet Hempstead County needs through volunteer service. Arkansas already has seventy counties with centers, and Hope members are contacting churches civic groups clubs and citizens to discuss the program.
