Oil dependence grows as Soviets may supply future energy
A five year pact between Occidental Petroleum and the Soviet Union signals possible Soviet crude and natural gas flowing to the United States amid rising foreign oil reliance. Experts note tech and financial aid in exchange for oil and gas, highlighting a shift in energy dependence with Canada and Venezuela unable to meet demand. The United States, with shrinking domestic reserves, risks heavier reliance on Middle East and African supplies as Gulf and Alaska resources face legal and development hurdles.

Village Creek State Park costs exceed early estimates
The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports land costs for Village Creek State Park in eastern Arkansas will exceed initial estimates by about 1 million dollars. State Parks officials say higher land prices could slow phase one of the 1700 acre park between Forrest City and Wynne. They seek 450 thousand dollars from the Game and Fish Commission, to be matched by a federal grant, to offset 1968 1969 estimates. Director William Henderson warns that without more money development could be impeded.
