Connally seeks key role in international policy
Washington AP reports former Treasury Secretary John B. Connally wants a leading role in international economic policy if a second Nixon administration occurs. Associates say he would prefer secretary of state to vice president, aiming to imprint his stamp on U.S. policy. He helped devalue the dollar and shape currency systems, and seeks to modernize the State Department for a more economics-driven world. A recent 17-nation tour underscored his focus on reducing postwar aid and restructuring global finance.
