The Associated Press reports persistent rain in Arkansas with a 70 percent chance of precipitation today and tonight and 60 percent on Wednesday. A travelers advisory covers the southern portion of the state as rain lingers through midweek.
The Hope Star reports a chance of light freezing rain in the area due to gulf moisture over a cold front, with considerable cloudiness through Wednesday. Daily highs range from the 30s to the low 40s across cities like Harrison Fayetteville and Memphis, while overnight lows mostly stay in the 30s.

A 2000 pound water buffalo gore and stomped game warden Malcolm A. Gallop to death while he took tickets at the Lion Country Safari entrance. Tourists watched as the animal, nicknamed Ralph, repeatedly attacked, with Gallop’s clothes torn and the enclosure cited as the scene of a protective attack after the buffalo s calf was born.
Barry's Grocery and Market, destroyed last Thursday by fire, has moved to a temporary location at the Western Auto Store next door. Barry's is open to customers for business affairs only and not for grocery sales.
In Junction City Ohio two convicts held three women hostage for nearly six hours at the Junction City Treatment Facility demanding an unmarked car for escape. Highway patrols stormed the barricaded office as convicts were shot. Michael Woods died and Bernard Barbiaux was critically wounded.
A federal judge in Minnesota predicts the Wounded Knee conspiracy trial of AIM leaders Dennis Banks and Russell Means could last up to four months. Banks and Means face 10 counts of conspiracy for the 1973 occupation of Wounded Knee, with a maximum penalty of 80 years and $80,000 in fines if convicted. The case, moved to Minnesota on venue grounds, opens with jury selection as proceedings begin.
Sears, Roebuck and Co announces discontinuation of all credit promotions in Arkansas. No new accounts or credit advertising will be solicited while existing accounts and services continue. The move follows cost pressures and an 18 percent annual rate deemed necessary to cover credit service costs.
A Little Rock woman sues Skaggs Co Inc for 25000 accusing patrols of rights violations of black patrons at a Skaggs Drug Center. Murphy Oil plans 172 million in capital outlays for crude, gas, offshore drilling, and refining. Katharine Hepburn hospitalized with undisclosed reason at UCLA Medical Center. State Rep George Proctor will not seek re election due to work and family demands. Mrs. Jewell Hollis 59 of Patmos Ark died Monday in a Hope hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Patmos Baptist Church with Rev Frankie Burk e officiating. Burial in Patmos Cemetery. Survivors include husband Selva three sons Dorsey Jerry Nicky one daughter Judy McBay mother Minnie Downs two brothers two sisters and seven grandchildren. Virginia Wilson Muncey 87 died Sunday night in a Hope nursing home. Services were held Tuesday at Herndon Funeral Chapel with Rev B W Lane officiating. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Paul Klipsch told Hope Rotary Club that invention needs strong salesmanship. He traced Klipsch and Associates from 1960s beginnings, WWII service, a 1948 start with six speakers, and growth to 10 000 tweeters in 1973. He noted sales manager Bob Moers boosted public acceptance and cited Radio City Music Hall as a Klipsch showcase.
Miss Clara Beaty 81 died today in a local hospital. She lived in Emmet and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include six sisters and a brother, with a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Herndon Chapel with Bro Calvin Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Beaty Cemetery near DeAnn, Ark, with Herndon Funeral Home in charge.
