Associated Press notes unsettled conditions into Saturday with clouds at times. The weather service forecasts mild today, some clearing and cooler tonight, and fall-like skies with milder temperatures on Friday. The extended outlook remains uncertain.
A Hope Star weather column forecasts a chance of precipitation from Saturday through Monday with a midmorning cold front entering Arkansas and moving to the southeast by Friday. Highs are expected in the 60s to low 70s today, with Friday in the 60s. lows tonight in the 30s to low 40s. Rainfall reports show El Dorado with .02 inches. experiment station data note a high of 62 and a low of 36 with a trace of rain. The paper lists postage rates for various mail and carrier options and notes staff credits and associations.
A lone black male entered Lois' Beauty Shop via the back door and stole a pocketbook and a moneybag from a table, fleeing in a blue Oldsmobile on highway 67. Police, sheriffs, and state police are investigating. no injuries reported. checks dated Feb 1923 should be canceled.
Sky Jenkins 6 of Clatskanie Oregon and Jennie Doescher 58 of Aplington Iowa died in a hospital two hours after a late Wednesday crash. The freight train struck the Amtrak chartered bus at about 39 miles per hour as a depot watcher mother stood nearby. The train did not derail and about 30 people were aboard en route to San Diego.

Funeral services for Major Orson Harris 74 were held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Herndon Funeral Home chapel with two ministers officiating. The body will be in state at the Methodist Church in Bradford Ark with graveside services to follow Friday at Heard cemetery. He was a retired farmer and a Bradford Masonic Lodge member and leaves a large family including sons Dr Lynn Harris and Dr Lowell Harris of Hope and four other sons, two daughters, siblings and grandchildren.
A notice lists a Interdenominational Ministers Alliance union service at Bethel A.M.E. Church on Sunday March 3 at 7 o clock with Rev. W M Martin of Rising Star Baptist Church preaching and Rev. A Walton presiding. Also postponed Anna P Strong Federated Club meeting date to be announced.
Emperor Haile Selassie ordered troop reinforcements as a border mutiny for pay rose to a third day. Rebels seized Asmara and Massawa, demanding pay and protesting inflation. Prime Minister Aklila Hapteworkd resigned. fighting included clashes with Somalis near the Ogaden, the oil-rich region.
Wilbur Botts, a DeWitt attorney heading a citizen concerns group, said a lawsuit would be filed if the state Game and Fish Commission does not meet soon about a proposed timber cut in 64 acres of the 4000 acre Bayou Meto Wildlife Management Area. Commission chairman Lloyd McCollum promised to explore a meeting within days.
