A weak high pressure moved into Arkansas delivering fall skies and gusty winds before advancing eastward. Weather shifts suggest a low pressure system approaches, bringing changes to the southwest region.
A trailing cold front nears Arkansas with increased clouds and showers expected late today across the southwest to spread statewide tonight. Highs in the 60s today, mid 50s to low 60s Thursday, and overnight lows in the 40s. Also lists attendance of rainfall, station figures, and various mailing and subscription rates for the Hope Star.
The Commerce Department reports GNP rose to 1,337.9 billion dollars in Q4, driven by higher net exports and inventory investment, while personal income rose and spending grew slowly. In Surrey County near London, high house prices limit mortgages, causing a manpower shortage in emergency services.
At the Town and Country Restaurant on February 8 a special banquet honored 85 employers, student employees, and guests for supporting Hope High School cooperative education. Mrs. Rodell Pace of Camden seeks 500000 in Qua Chita County Circuit Court alleging she was sent to a funeral home for embalming while in a diabetic coma. The suit charges Dr. Willis Colgar Jr and St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance with error in death certificate and wrongful treatment. An allegedly living Pace was discovered by funeral home attendants while awaiting a mortician, and the incident allegedly ruined her ability to work and sleep.
The Rising Star Baptist Church will observe its annual Women Day on Sunday at 2 30 p m. Sponsored by the deaconess and trustee ladies the program includes a sermon by Rev Louis Jones pastor of Mt Zion Baptist Church Prescott Rev W M Martin Pastor Also mention of Mrs Alphonso T Denham and Mrs Frankie as guests at Mrs Lethia Lawson's home in Prescott and Hope with Farm Bureau meeting attendance in Hope.
The Federal Economic Commission outlines continued gaso line changes across states. Illinois and Maryland receive an extra two percent, added to their three percent hardship set asides, for discretionary distribution by governors. Arkansas and nine others get up to two percent as practicable, while ten western and midwestern states face possible reductions up to two percent. No other changes scheduled.
Lions Club members attended a Monday luncheon at Town & Country to watch a film titled A Giant Step in Communications about the first moon flight and Skylab. New member Bill Dwight from Corn Belt Hatcheries joined, and several guests were hosted by Lions at the event.
An Air Viet Nam flight from Sai gon to Da Nang with stops at Dalat and Qui Nhon faced a hijacking attempt. Four people died when a grenade explosion occurred during an struggle as an American passenger and an accompanying Viet Namese passenger fought the hijacker. Earlier, a student tried to seize a Pan American jet in Saigon on July 2, 1972, and was killed by an American passenger.
