J. M. Ray, 67, was found dead in bed at his Tokio home Sunday morning the result of a heart attack. He had been in ill health but had felt better when he retired Saturday night. He owned a blacksmith shop and grist mill in Tokio and was well known in north Hempstead county. Survived by wife and five children, funeral held Monday at 2 pm with burial in Ozan cemetery at Bingen.
The New York market saw cotton fall two points on Tuesday with March futures closing at 5.92 and May at 6.03. The prior close was 5.94, with a high of 5.95 and a low of 5.87 for the session. N Y spot mid at 5.90 with no sales.
Traffic in Salt Lake City stalled as a man herded 49 hogs and 75 to 100 goats into the middle of a busy street. Policemen halted traffic while streetcars and autos waited for the animals to pass.
Joseph Correia confessed to Captain James C. Dewey that he aided four other boys in robbery of a truck carrying 6500 dollars in gold bullion near Killingly Connecticut two years ago. He cited hunger and unemployment as motives for turning himself in.
Salt Lake City officers Morrison and Rogers charged D. D. Jordan and Robert Stocks with stealing a tire and rim from a parked car. The youths confessed, but the suspects were released because the automobile and its owner could not be located.
Deets Pickett of the Methodist Episcopal church told the house ways and means committee that the church opposes licensed liquor traffic, including beer wine or stronger liquors, warning that legalization would divert vast sums from other purchases. Bishop James Cannon Jr. added that church members using intoxicating liquor violate their vows.

In Los Angeles Raymond Clapp, a one man car operator, was held up by two masked robbers who forced him to a praying position at the end of his route and looted his money belt containing $26.
Eighty one entrants of The Star Hi Ho puzzle contest. twenty one solved all six puzzles. Five cash prizes of one dollar awarded to Atkins, Padgitt, Laseter, Clayton, Breeding. Sixteen others get one dollar subscription credit.
Santa Claus Indiana remains busy as Christmas nears with children's letters, visitors, and gifts to prepare. Postmaster J F Martin and 60 local helpers handle the rush, while Ferry Ballou from Philadelphia assists in wrapping toys and reading mail at the Santa Claus post.

Local health officials report 350 to 400 influenza cases across Hope and Hempstead counties, worsened by a cold wave. A few pneumonia cases are noted with no deaths. Filing fees for city primary January 24 were announced by the City Democratic Central Committee. Mayor and municipal judge each cost 15 dollars, treasurer and recorder or clerk 5 dollars each, alderman 2.50 dollars. Four aldermen will be elected, one from each ward, with four holdovers to 1934. The recorder or clerk seat is vacant due to death. the winner will serve one year, then a two year term chosen in 1934.
British aviator Amy Johnson left Lagos in a bid to beat her husband’s London to Cape Town time and set a new record on the return journey. An unconfirmed report from Nigeria notes she departed at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning.
Washington reports that the human eye can distinguish up to one million different shades and hues. Dr Peare B Judd of the Bureau of Standards, with Professor C P Tyndall of the University of Iowa as subject, estimated the figure after elaborate tests.
British architect Robert Howden described to the Royal Society of Arts a new transparent glass for stores and displays that provides protection while remaining invisible. The key is to bevel the glass slightly to eliminate reflections.

The Arkansas Gazette reports a display of land racketeering under Act 129 of 1929. Property owners forfeited 1929 taxes and bought back via the state for one year’s taxes, with $27,400 in 52 downtown blocks and $26,000 repurchased. Rural land totaling $77,180 and 62 tracts including 1,919 acres were also taken and repurchased since July 1, 1932. Officials say forfeitures rose as owners seek two years’ relief, noting two pre-1929 tracts had small values and one later reclaim occurred after three years tax-free.
The death of Ray Nagal, 18 month old son of Tom Nagal, Tuesday brings the death toll to three from a Noble Lake grade crossing collision Monday. Mrs Linton Walker, 26, and her daughter Dorothy, 5, died Monday. three others are critically injured.

Representative Louis T. McFadden of Pennsylvania moved to impeach President Hoover, charging usurpation of Congress and citing Hoover’s handling of the Europe debt moratorium. The House defeated the resolution on a roll call vote after a tense debate with administration officials.
Gordon H Campbell of Little Rock was elected chairman of the General Agents Advisory Council of Aetna at a Hartford meeting. He succeeds S T Whatley who becomes vice president of Aetna Life Insurance. Campbell is the first non metropolitan agent to hold the chair.
Miss Lola Morrow of Elizabethton reported at Knoxville bus station that a man offered to help with a ticket and luggage. She gave him 20 dollars and he disappeared, leaving police officers Hatcher and Humphrey to investigate.
Alfredo Uribe, hauling instruments for an El Paso orchestra, was taken to the Juarez police station after driving into a cottonwood and wrecking his truck. Six men, not officers, seized him and implied he must pay for the instruments.
The U S Geodetic Survey crew aboard the Guide reports an undersea mountain a mile high visible only below the water. The peak lies 5 400 feet beneath the ocean surface, far from any danger to passing ships off the California coast.
