Delays in Notifying Death May Affect Life Insurance Claims
An ABA public service piece explains that failure to promptly notify insurers after a death can jeopardize or bar claims. Courts allow reasonable delays if explanation shows lack of knowledge. however, delays due to negligence or extreme spans, like 44 years, often lead to denial. Case examples highlight when 'immediate' means soon after discovery, not strictly after death.
