The National Guard basketball team posted its second straight win, defeating Patmos High School 35 to 10. Pate Hope led with 15 points while Watkins added 12. the game was rough with Patmos fouling 11 times and the Guardsmen earning seven team fouls.

Three inmates escaped from Benton Arkansas jail late Friday night or early Saturday morning. The men were Kid Evans 30 held for horse theft. Victor Atterbury about 20 and Berlin Bledsoe about 20 held for a grocery robbery. Evans left a note for Sheriff Rucker saying he would go to Little Rock to sell two cars and would return to pay any fines.

Joe Modsynski, 41, paid a $50 fine and $8 costs after taking Joe Pruss' goat. Authorities charged John with stealing the goat and an aluminum snuff box, two cloaks, one watch, a shotgun, and six chickens. It was not disclosed if the items were for the goat’s diet.
Mrs Eunice Stephens of Blevins Ark and her two children Wanda and Frances were injured when their car parked roadside near Rio Arizona was struck Friday night. Wanda, age seven, suffered a fractured skull and may die. Frances, twelve, had broken legs and internal injuries. Mrs Stephens was less hurt. Fourth passenger Bert Maria of Rilito was only slightly injured.
Telephone tips say Mrs and children left two weeks ago with Horace Smith. Friday incidents include George Bankston narrowly escaping injury when his Chevrolet truck plunged off a 10 foot embankment between Murfreesboro and McCarthy. The truck rolled over, Bankston sustaining a broken cheek. A Plunkett Jarrell delivery truck hit Dr. Frank W. Pickell’s car on North Main due to ice on the windshield. Saturday morning a Ford touring car with several Negro occupants collided with a cotton truck on West Third street. no injuries reported though the car was badly crushed.
Zero and sub-zero temperatures swept the United States on Saturday amid snow sleet and rain. Virginia and Washington saw light snow while California reported snow. San Mateo children played in the flurries as Oklahoma City hovered around 16 degrees and Little Rock around 26 with Chesapeake at 32 while Alaska enjoyed milder weather.
In St. Albans Vermont a 16 year old boy named John Gravelins was shot in the arm when his small dog bumped the trigger of his shotgun while he rested on one knee during a rabbit hunt with his best friend nearby. The incident occurred on a hunting trip and the dog played around the boy as the gun discharged.
Washington reports power official Ralph Williams aged 52, a member of the Federal Power Commission, died Saturday.
