Handel's The Messiah will be performed Sunday night December 11 at 7 30 by a chorus directed by Mrs J C Carlton with Mrs Ralph Routon as organist The Friday Music Club members and other singers will perform with a lengthy program including organ preludes recitatives and choruses led by the Rev John Spraggins and Rev Wallace Rogers at the service.
The Arkansas State Highway Commission will take bids December 15 for five emergency federal aid road projects totaling about 1 million dollars under a 4.2 million package. Major work includes a steel and concrete bridge on Highway 63 over a floodway near Marked Tree, plus grading, culverts, pavement and embankment projects on Highways 65 67 and 70 near Texarkana Marshall Gordon Prescott and Cache River bottoms.
Willie Neal an 18 year old negro was arrested Friday by officers Arnett and Turner charged with stealing a topcoat from Dana Straughter The coat was recovered Neal had recently been released from the State reformatory after a sentence for burglary of the Kendall Lemley home last year About two years ago Neal was arrested for attempted theft of Dr P B Carrigan s automobile
A delegation of five farmers from the National Farmers Relief Conference visited President Hoover and read their relief demands. The group included one Black farmer and listened to the president for about ten minutes on a Friday in Washington.
James Stewart a one armed Black man was jailed here Friday for robbing Hope Steam Laundry Wednesday night. He gained entry by removing a rear window and took laundry and dry cleaning enough to fill a cotton sack. Special Agent Tom Middlebrooks spotted him with the bundle and had him removed from a south bound freight train. All stolen goods were recovered. Stewart listed Shreveport Louisiana as his home.
Chevrolet announces public display of its 1933 models on Saturday December 17 at over 10 000 dealer show rooms nationwide. The release notes full production staff back at work since October and that dealer orders for 50 000 display cars have been placed, with field reports guiding retail order estimates.
C. E. Romig, long with the Hope L. C. Burr store, resigns Friday after being chosen manager of a Bald Knob lumber commissary. He leaves Sunday to begin Monday duties. wife and three children will stay until semester end before joining him. Romig has been a Hope resident eight years, coming from Enid Oklahoma to join J. C. Penney and later moving to Burr Co.
Washington report says President Hoover may spend Christmas in Florida with a possible New Year trip to the South. If true, he would cancel the White House New Year reception where the public has met the president in past years, drawing large crowds.

President Hoover asked Congress to reorganize the federal government by reducing the number of independent agencies and creating four new assistant secretary posts in the interior education health and recreation agriculture and commerce. The cotton market rose 17 points to 5.86 per bale with March futures at 5.86, up from 5.69. Friday’s session showed a high near 6.01 and a low around 5.66, with spot in New York at 5.90 and sales at 300.
