At the 26th annual convention of the Association of Life Insurance Presidents in New York, Thomas A. Buckner of New York Life reported that while the Depression reduced policy payouts, life insurance payments in 1929 still exceeded three billion dollars. Monts seed store moves from South Walnut near Front to the former Darwin Store on East Second Street. The building, owned by the Betts estate, sits central in the retail district and will serve customers more conveniently. Monts will sell produce from his three mile east farm and continues to offer seeds, fertilizer, poultry supplies, and feed. The Missouri Pacific spur tracks run behind the new site as before.
Miss Callie Wesson purchases the Weltman millinery shop on South Main from the C. W. Weltman estate. Wesson, connected with the firm twenty years, will continue operations at the same location. The store has been a leading Southwest Arkansas millinery for twenty five years.
