The DAY'S paper reports Hope plans to ask the Reconstruction Finance Corporation for a 15000 loan to build a municipal natatorium. The city would receive the funds without obligation, with the natatorium as security and any remaining revenue after expenses funding the loan.
The J. B. McCrary Construction Company of Atlanta filed its bond in Little Rock Tuesday night, enabling immediate work on the Hope-Emmet No. 67 concrete paving. R. B. Stanford is resident engineer. Maxfield Kellar will supervise construction as equipment moves from Grand Cane, Louisiana. The nine mile route from Hope to the Hempstead Nevada line should open parts in spring with full completion in about six months, roughly June.
The House Ways and Means Committee opened hearings on the Collier bill to allow 2.75 beer and light wines. Treasury witnesses were not called, and the administration reportedly would not comment. Brewers expect 3 to 3.2 percent beer and tax revenue over 330 million dollars annually. Attorney General Mitchell urged rapid changes to dry laws if any are made.
The Kiwanis Club will entertain Hope High School’s entire football squad with a 6:30 p.m. banquet Friday at the New Capital Hotel. Coach Teddy Jones, 25 players, pep squad leaders, and city superintendent Miss Beryl Henry will attend, as Gus Bernier of the New Capital Hotel arranges a turkey dinner. Camden attorney T. M. Clifford will speak on Good Sportsmanship, with Floppy Hartung, Al Rose, and others accompanying.
The Hope National Guard basketball team earned its first win of the season by defeating Washington High School 34 to 15 at the armory. All players saw action with Fate and Watkins leading Hope in scoring. Pate contributed 14 points and Watkins 9 as Darnell Harrell started as guards and Patterson held center.
An explosion at the I. G. Farbin Artificial Silk Works in Premnitz, Rathenow area, killed ten workers and left many buried after a 400 pound hydrogen container exploded during finishing touches at the plant on Wednesday.
The 1932 cotton crop estimate will be announced Thursday as New York futures fall three points to 5.74, down from 5.77. The decline translates to about 15 cents per bale, with the government ginning report on cotton ginned before December 1 due the same day.
Arkansas County Judges association will hire an auditor to verify gasoline tax receipts in the State Revenue Department to determine if counties deserve additional turnbacks. The Highway Department has ordered impounding county shares from October 1 to fund bond road debt as revenues fall short of 7 percent of the state highway fund. The audit will be directed by State Comptroller Griffin Smith as his office audits the revenue department.
A vacant house on South Main Street burned at 10:45 Tuesday night. The fire started in the upper story and firemen could not determine a cause. Owned by G. W. Hinton it was recently occupied by Wash Hutson and family. Insurance covers the loss.
The second cold wave of the year is due to strike South Arkansas Wednesday night into Thursday with lows of 18 to 25 degrees. North Arkansas towns like Fayetteville may see about 12 degrees. The Weather Man had forecast rain and a falling thermometer Tuesday, with cloudy skies and rain beginning Tuesday night.

Frank May a former Hempstead county clerk now with the State Conservation and Inspection Department in Little Rock spent Wednesday in Hope on a day visit detailing his duties and current post.
Hope city council unanimously authorized Mayor Vesey to request a 15000 self liquidating loan from the Reconstruction Finance Corp for a new natatorium at Fairpark with a pool bathhouse and new facilities. The loan is secured only by the natatorium and its revenue will retire the debt.
President elect Franklin D. Roosevelt moves to New York after 12 days of study on national problems. He will confer with Acting Governor Lehman in New York City about the Albany special legislative session and then head to Warm Springs for an in depth review of government structure and the federal budgetary system.
President Hoover unveiled a bill to reduce annual veteran outlays by 127 million, tying the plan to the 1934 budget. It would cap pensions and allowances, restrict benefits by income, end many disability payments, and shift some veterans to general pension rolls.
The Emmet Townsend Garage and service station at Emmet was robbed Monday night. A small amount of cash, cigarettes and tobacco were taken. Sheriff Weaver said burglars forced a rear door and traces of automobile tracks show a stolen car used in the crime. No arrests yet.

He forecasts a 1.15 billion dollar deficit this year and 307 million next year without the new tax and savings programs.
The Farm Board urged Congress to raise agricultural prices to par with other commodities and to authorize new tools for stabilization. The report calls for continuous self-sustaining funding, debt compromises with farm cooperatives, and new borrowing or bond powers, noting $140 million net assets after loan reserves and a $183 million value after reserves.
President Hoover sent a reduced budget to Congress proposing a 2 percent manufacturers tax, gasoline tax retention, a 1 percent federal salary cut, and vast veterans benefits reductions. Expenditures would total 3.256 billion with receipts near 2.949 billion, creating a deficit of about 307 million.
