The forecast shows high pressure keeping sunshine today but a low pressure system to the west and a high to the east bring southerly winds and moisture. A few showers are expected Friday and Friday night across Arkansas as moisture returns.
The Hope Star notes unseasonably warm weather with highs mainly in the sixties and no precipitation in the last 24 hours. In Arkansas four recent hunting deaths and three serious injuries prompt the Game and Fish Commission to urge heightened caution during deer season. Fatalities occurred in Garland Clark Grant counties. nonfatal shootings in Baxter Prairie counties. Deer season runs December 8 to 13. The agency notes a blaze orange requirement above the waist.
A North Central Association evaluation team spent three days in Hope to review Hope Public Schools. Led by John Miller, the Arkansas NCA chair, the group assessed strengths and weaknesses and made recommendations, stressing administrators as a key program strength. The team visited classrooms, interviewed teachers, and will report findings to Miller before sending a summary to the superintendent.
Officials report 72 held after hijacking of a four coach train in an open field near the consulate. Four passengers released, three escaped, 18 found safety, leaving 13 women and 4 men among the remaining hostages. About 150 police and military ringed the train as authorities sought a resolution.
President Ford and Henry Kissinger held talks in Beijing amid statements on mutual understanding and China’s openness to the Japanese model in normalization. Kissinger noted Korea differences but stressed restrained positions as talks pointed toward stronger Sino American ties and a possible Moscow trip.
John William Briant known as Bill Briant, 65, died in a local hospital. Survived by his mother and sister, with funeral Friday at 2 p.m. at Herndon Chapel. Jim Sneeden, 76, died in Murfreesboro hospital. Funeral services were held, burial in Biggs Chapel cemetery. survived by wife, many children, and extended family across several states.
Two men died early Wednesday when their truck left Interstate 30 near Malvern, burned after the crash. State Police Corporal Lendol Holcomb identified the victims as J. W Taylor of Benson and Robert Mogris Jr. of Little Rock. Taylor was the driver. Henry Bean covered Lake Itasca in Minnesota in 1832.
A screening of Time to Run will be shown at 7 p.m. December 7 at First Baptist Church. The Eastmancolor World Wide Pictures feature follows Warren Cole a driven engineer whose overwork strains family life. Ed Nelson Randall Carver Barbara Sigel Joan Winmill star in this film about strengthening love relationships.
Negotiators reached a tentative settlement with shopcraft unions representing 70 000 workers averting a 6 am walkout that would have shut most railroads long distance freight and commuter service The agreement includes a three cent hourly wage boost for mechanics and bars outside contracting for parts made in railroad shops The unions agreed to continue bargaining and a broader three year wage and benefit package was previously agreed with other rail unions The potential strike would have halted Amtrak service and disrupted 750 000 daily commuters nationwide

Singer Dionne Warwick and husband Bill Elliott were granted a divorce in Los Angeles after ten years of marriage. Elliott, a drummer and actor, sought five thousand dollars monthly in support. Warwick’s monthly income was listed at one hundred thousand dollars. Custody of their two sons, David six and Damon two, was awarded to Warwick temporarily. A community property trial is anticipated next year.
