End the War Amendment Faces Likely Defeat in Senate

Legislation to pull all U.S. troops out of Vietnam by 1972 appears doomed in a Senate vote. Supporters say the measure would reflect national divisions and force a fuller congressional role, while opponents warn it would disrupt Vietnamization and prolong the conflict. The plan would cut U.S. troop strength to 780,000 by late next April and bar funds after that for anything but winding down combat.
