The United Fund Board of Directors met Tuesday afternoon August 22 to elect officers for 1968 and plan the campaign. Harold Hendrix was named president, Calvin Smith vice president, B N Holt secretary, Eugene White treasurer, James E Pruden fund drive chairman. A budget committee was appointed to review requests and report at the next meeting. The annual fund drive will start in October with date to be announced by Pruden and Hendrix.

Explosives Threat Quelled by Army Experts in Pa Town
In Fort Littleton Pennsylvania two Army explosive experts Capt Robert Leigndecker and Set Benjamin Albertson risked their lives removing smoldering cargo from a chemical laden truck. Wearing gas masks they opened the van doors as a stubborn fire threatened a metal cylinder containing hazardous chemicals. State Police Trooper Earl Alleman warned the cylinder could have ignited the rest of the chemicals and released deadly fumes. The danger lingered over the town of about 100 people for six hours Sunday night.

Winds Hit Sky Divers 14 Are Lost
Eights veteran sky divers plunged into Lake Erie in strong winds, missing the target by ten miles. Fourteen remained missing at press time, two survived, and a massive search by Coast Guard, Air Force, Navy, Army and private boats continued. One survivor reported the jump at Hopkins radar fix, but most had no flotation gear. Patricia Lownsbury, who wed June 26, 1964, was found dead. she had celebrated her wedding with a sky dive.
