The Associated Press reports warm, partly cloudy conditions to persist across Arkansas through Friday. Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms are expected mainly in the northwest, with a band of showers and thunderstorms lingering across the state.
Weather notes from Hope Star detail a southeast moving band affecting northwest Arkansas, a stalled cold front from Lake Superior to Amarillo, and 90s highs with upper 60s to low 70s lows. President Ford traveled to HEW to sign a 25 billion education measure and impose new limits on forced busing. He then addressed Congress on the Capitol steps and met with the congressional Black Caucus. Ford hosted campaign photos with Republican candidates in the Oval Office and honored Ambassador Davies upon his return to the United States from Cyprus.
On Wednesday subsidies may assist farmers producing wheat corn sorghum barley and upland cotton to recover weather losses. An official said the $500 million estimate would raise total farm subsidies this calendar year to at least $890 million.
Tucson lawyer John Aboud Sr says he will urge the Arizona Attorney General to reject extra extradition for Alvin Tyger 26 who escaped an Arkansas prison six years ago. Arkansas officials refused parole and clemency. Tyger lives in Tucson under the alias Bobby OBrien with a wife and child and nine years two months remaining on his sentence.
Cypriot police holding an unidentified person in the investigation of U.S. Ambassador Rodger Davies’s assassination amid an anti American riot. Two others were arrested earlier and released. The attorney general oversees the probe as EOKA B is suspected. Waldheim rejects Turkish demand, proposes UN force increase to 4300 troops amid island crisis.
Owen R. Wilson 71 of Prescott died Tuesday. He was a First Baptist Church member, a Mason, and a retired building contractor. Survived by wife Vernell Smith Wilson. sons Watson Wilson and Tillman Wilson. daughters W R Smith, T D McMillan, Betty Wilson, and Mrs James L. Hart. 19 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral 10 am Thursday at First Baptist Prescott. Burial Sweet Home Cemetery by Cornish Funeral Service.
The Rev George W Hooten 83 of Hope died Wednesday in a local hospital He served as Baptist minister for 60 years and led churches in Arkansas Louisiana Texas and Oklahoma He was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Hope Survived by wife Edna Yancy Hooten five sons two stepsons a stepdaughter nineteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren Funeral Friday at Unity Baptist Church at 3 p m with Rev Gordon Renshaw officiating Burial in Memory Gardens by Herndon Funeral Home
A benefit program is set for Tuesday at 7 30 p m at Bodcaw gym to aid Cliff Butler who has been hospitalized in Shreveport for eight weeks with no income. Music by Max Morm on and the Country Swingers and Edna and the Misfits. No admission charge. All donations go to the Butler family.
Nelson Rockefeller says he will campaign for Republican candidates this fall, with four to five speaking dates monthly, and may take on high level duties in the Ford administration. He stresses unity and emphasis on addressing inflation, plans 19 courtesy calls and meetings with Kissinger and Ford before returning to Maine retreat.
