Federal transit bill promises mass transit funding reach

The bill divides funds into four categories with 1.7 billion for large cities and 2.9 billion possible later, plus 500 million for small towns and rural areas. Rep. Bella Abzug calls it a basic victory as operating subsidies and capital funds are authorized. A Bengal tiger, 11 ft 1 in long and 857 lbs, claimed to be the largest taken in India, is now exhibited at the Smithsonian.

Leo Club Exchange Program Outlined By Lions Speaker

Wilson Hansford former Arkansas Lions district governor spoke at the Hope Lions luncheon detailing Leo Club formation and the Youth Exchange program. He highlighted club service, eye and kidney work noting 78 eyes processed and 28 kidney transplants this year. The Lions picnic is set for Aug 26 at Fair Park with no noon or Labor Day meetings.

Funeral plans for Morris set in Wichita August 24 at 2 p.m.

Ford rejects wage price controls plan for inflation fight

President Ford pledged not to seek mandatory wage and price controls. He urged quick establishment of a monitoring agency without controls, and moved to form a steering committee for an upcoming economic summit in late September or early October. The House approved the wage and price stability bill 369 to 27, with the Senate already having passed it. Additionally the article notes Mercury's surface temp measured near -300 F to 650 F.
