The National Weather Service forecasts clear to partly cloudy skies with hot days and warm nights for Arkansas through Thursday. A chance of scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms is noted. Lows tonight in the 70s, highs Thursday again in the 90s.
Overnight lows ranged from 66 to 73 across Pine Bluff to Fort Smith with no rainfall at main stations in 24 hours. Experimental station report shows 93 high and 64 low for 24 hours to Wednesday 7 a.m. Wednesday August 21. The bill divides funds into four categories with 1.7 billion for large cities and 2.9 billion possible later, plus 500 million for small towns and rural areas. Rep. Mt Olive Baptist Perry Town hosts August 19 to 24 led by Rev J A Cooper and Rev C W Harris. Univ Baptist Church Fulton hosts August 26 to 30 with guest choirs and Rev J A Cooper. Obituaries report Cora Lomax of Hope died August 19 in Los Angeles. Morris of Emmet died August 17 in Los Angeles with survivors including Carl and Prentice Morris and Savannah McKizzie. Funeral plans for Morris set in Wichita August 24 at 2 p.m.
President Ford pledged not to seek mandatory wage and price controls. He urged quick establishment of a monitoring agency without controls, and moved to form a steering committee for an upcoming economic summit in late September or early October. The House approved the wage and price stability bill 369 to 27, with the Senate already having passed it. Additionally the article notes Mercury's surface temp measured near -300 F to 650 F.
Joe Edward Evans aged 76 dies in a local hospital leaving a wife Flossie and children J W Evans Lewis Evans and Thelma Richardson plus five grandchildren and siblings. Mil ton Peebles to officiate with burial at Memory Gardens. Billy Joe Greeson of Lake Charles dies aged 45 with funeral, graveside services in Hope, and survivors listed. A five legged calf born at a state farm near Oimer Nova Bystrice is reported by AP with veterinarians unsure of outcome.
Crit Stuart III told the Kiwanis Club about his six month stay in Europe, mainly Holland and Greece, and his conversations with locals on America’s image. He described Greek-Turkish tensions, pacifist Holland’s views on Vietnam, and mixed opinions from a Belgian jockey to a German journalist, with Greece seen as modern yet economically lagging.
