A weakening cold front will bring widely scattered showers and thunderstorms to Arkansas Saturday. The front lies across the northwest corner today and is expected to move southeast tonight and Saturday, beginning in the northwest and spreading statewide.

Henry L. Hunt 82 of 265 Robison Place Texarkana died in a Texarkana hospital after living in Hope previously. Survived by wife Eunice, son Alfred L. Hunt, two Texas daughters, a Dallas daughter, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Services with East Funeral Home 4 p.m. Friday at First Church of the Nazarene Texarkana Ark.
Arkansas plans to defend its melon title with a display at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson Sept. 14 22 and at the Arkansas State Fair in Little Rock Sept. 27 Oct. 6. Officials from Arkansas Parks and Tourism Commission travel to Kansas City with State Senator Paul Benham and Maurice Lewis among organizers. The event includes a brown bag concert headlined by Jimmy Driftwood with the Ozark Folk Center as background and a proclamation challenging Arkansas growers to beat Kansas’ best melon.
The calendar reports revival services at Bethel AME Church led by Rev. Bernetta Jones with a youth night on Friday. A Masonic gathering is planned by Royal Arch Masons at St Andrew Lodge No 10. Coming events cover visits by Earnest Booker’s summer guests and a large Beasley and Charles family reunion in Emmet with many relatives from across the U.S. participating.
