City Plans 500000 St program for Hope

Hope High Band Students Win Medals at Arkansas Contest

Hope High School Concert Band members earned First and Second Division medals at the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association Contest in Hot Springs. Miranda rule applies to military cases, court rules

The Supreme Court Miranda decision extending rights to counsel and silence is applied to military trials. In a 2-1 ruling the Court of Military Appeals overturned a prior decision, saying military counsel must be present during investigations for cases tried after June 13, 1966. The ruling involved Airman Michael L. Templa, convicted of indecent liberties with minors at Dover AFB.

Spa Planning Model City Project in Hot Springs

Hot Springs City Council approved a resolution to seek a 99,290 federal planning grant for a Model City project. Mayor Dan Wolf said Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller pledged contingency funds to match the city’s 12,211 contribution, with a potential match up to 35,000 if approved. Arkansas highway work eyed on several state routes

The Arkansas Highway Department plans traffic openings on Interstate 30 from the Texas border to Homan and a segment to Fulton is near completion. Awards include Arkansas Rock and Gravel Co. for resurfacing 16.63 miles of State Highway 4 between Nashville and Hope, Beam Brothers for 12 miles of U S Highway 67 resurfacing from Hope to Fulton, and multiple Beam Brothers or Arkansas Rock and Gravel contracts on U S 67 segments. A stolen car case ends with a youth in custody and vehicle owner reclaim. Local events include a Friday night dance at Hope Youth Center with the Zonks, and dog vaccination shots at City Hall. Marines Fail in Try to Take Hill

U S planes and artillery battered a North Vietnamese hill northwest of Khe Sanh as 87 Marines died and 84 wounded after a failed assault. Reports also said 10 U S planes were lost this week in raids on Hanoi Haiphong with 620 total air losses.
