The National Weather Service forecasts precipitation to end tonight in Arkansas with mostly cloudy skies and mild temperatures and scattered showers mainly south and east. Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected tonight and Thursday with slightly warmer temperatures.
Rain in Arkansas ended briefly then redeveloped as a cold front affected the state. Upper level disturbance and high pressure from Texas will bring decreasing clouds and periods of rain through Friday. Extended outlook shows chances of rain with highs in the 60s to 70s and nightly lows in the 40s to 50s. Rain totals reported 7 a.m. include Little Rock .87 and El Dorado .95 inches.
Saratoga schools schedule a public meeting in the school lunchroom on April 11 to elect members to the Adult Advisory Committee for the Emergency School Aid Act. ESAA aims to foster race relations and address achievement gaps. A study of the current program and needs for the proposed project will be reviewed.
Kiwanis Club heard coach Jim Duncan discuss the importance of track and field in athletic programs. Duncan, Hope High School football and track coach, credited Harding College days in Searcy for his Arkansas athletics prominence and named students he works with, while John Dickson was inducted as a new Kiwanis member.
The trial continues with waiving the death penalty and remarks by Steel about futility. Zachry’s body was found Jan 9 about 17 miles south of Ashdown after multiple gunshot wounds. Co-defendants include Bean Talleson Jee Dias and Lindsey, all of Texarkana, Ark or Texarkana, Tex. Also noted are related charges against Zachry’s mother-in-law and others.
