Increased aid to Vietnam is likely after Nixon meeting Thieu
SAN CLEMENTE Calif IAP The White House sees economic aid to South Vietnam rising after Nixon Thieu talks. Ziegler said aid will be probably beyond current levels over 500 million annually. Both leaders condemned infiltrations of men and weapons from North Vietnam and warned of vigorous responses if truce violations continue. Thieu pressed for assurances on bombing raids. Nixon offered cautious support while indicating no public pledge. Thieu heads to Washington to meet Agnew after visiting veterans and prisoners and a Reagan dinner in Los Angeles.

Legislature May Finish by Friday After Delays
Arkansas lawmakers faced delays as the General Assembly drifted toward a Thursday or Friday windup. A stalled revenue stabilization bill, unresolved appropriation measures, and a disputed 75-vote funding hurdle blocked early adjournment. The House adjourned after a quorum failed, while the Senate prepared amended copies, with final action now likely later in the week and potential obstacles including a $10 million wilderness preservation appropriation.

Jones fined in Arkansas case over political trial conduct
The Arkansas sentencing notes no opinion from Atty Gen Tucker or Ark senator Jones. Attys Howell and Tucker denied requests for an official ruling on eligibility. Prominent Conway residents backed Jones amid questions of political prosecution. Jones sought a new trial after Judge Dier’s death but the court upheld its ruling. Harris cited failure to present key facts and noted the case strained the system.

Legislature debates funding and surplus measures in final session push
The House and Senate advanced or rejected key budget items as they near the end of the General Assembly session. Action included education appropriations with teacher raises and kindergarten funding, a surplus funds distribution bill, free textbooks for upper grades, and community college expansion financing. A notable clash over new college funding limits and a George amendment was defeated. The Parks and Tourism recreation facilities package, funded by state funds, bond proceeds and federal money, also passed.
