Red flag swimming ban eyed for Michigan state parks

Michigan's DNR plans a May 1 2022 ban on swimming on red flag days at state parks after the Natural Resources Commission informal approval. The rule allows water sports like surfing while prohibiting swimming on days with dangerous water and wave conditions, a move aimed at preventing drownings. Surfrider Foundation backs the objective and notes the amendment keeps water sports allowed with boards or float devices.
