Emus Shot By Allegan County Deputies After Wandering

Allegan County deputies fatally shot three emus found wandering in Dorr after owners could not be located. Capt. Chris Kuhn said attempts to corral failed as the birds blocked a roadway and posed danger to drivers. A witness family reported the birds staying on their property and trying to help, but no owner was found. Local officials noted emus are exotic animals with no statewide rules, requiring adherence to local ordinances and coordination with animal control or the DNR for non domestic wildlife. The AP contributed to the report.
