Griffon shipwreck claim renewed by Lake Michigan study
Libert of Charlevoix and the Great Lakes Exploration Group say a 2018 dive confirmed a colonial era wreck in Lake Michigan possibly the Griffon. After decades of legal battles and health setbacks, renewed research and a 2021 book aim to prove the 1679 vessel’s identity near Poverty Island amid ongoing debate.
