No local COVID outbreaks in schools for second week
Mitchell Boatman reports Ottawa and Allegan counties had no new school related COVID outbreaks last week per the state report. Across Michigan there were 11 outbreaks, five in Oakland County and one each in Isabella Jackson Lapeer Kalamazoo Gratiot and Washtenaw. West Ottawa and Hamilton districts show few active cases, while GVSU notes four active cases amid ongoing winter semester.

West Michigan Regional Airport reopens after runway rehab
The West Michigan Regional Airport reopened last week after a two week runway and taxiway rehabilitation. The project includes replacing all runway lighting with LED bulbs, with daylight operations until June 7. Total funding reached 4.1 million dollars from the FAA, covering 90 percent, plus about 182,600 dollars from the MDOT and 5 percent from the airport authority.

Fiery I-96 crash in Crockery Township leaves one dead
A one vehicle crash on westbound I 96 at the Nunica rest area in Crockery Township early Tuesday killed the lone occupant as speed is suspected. Ottawa County deputies urge witnesses to contact the sheriff or Silent Observer. In nearby Spring Lake Township a 29 year old Kentwood woman was arrested for DUI and six counts of child endangerment after crashing into a utility pole on North Fruitport Road near Walden Drive. No injuries to eight occupants reported. The pole was repaired, road closed about an hour. Holland area siren tests set for noon Thursday to three minutes to check warning systems ahead of severe weather season. Residents advised to learn siren meanings and response procedures.
