Dispute over 1904 title in Saugatuck Dunes land case
Jeff and Peg Padnos doing business as North Shores of Saugatuck LLC filed a July 16 quiet title suit in Western District Michigan against the U S Army Corps of Engineers to clarify ownership of land 45 feet inland from Kalamazoo River retaining walls. The suit centers on a 1904 deed granting the Corps rights to build and maintain channel walls and seeks determinations of property lines amid plans for 23 home sites and a marina basin on a 300 acre parcel between Saugatuck Dunes Natural Area and the state park. The Corps has a month to respond. Public affairs noted the Corps needs room for river access and navigation while North Shores awaits a permit for the marina basin.
