Zeeland City Council supports staff recommendations to spend 2.3 million from a 2021 budget surplus and relief funds on a Main Avenue snowmelt system and a broadband consultant. The extra funds include 500000 from the budget, 1300000 in personal property tax reimbursements, and 500000 ARPA relief money.
Two new rental outfits along Lake Macatawa attract customers. Radventures at 321 Douglas Ave offers e bikes e scooters e skateboards and One wheels with outdoor gear and beach items. Soft opened over the Fourth of July with one hour to daily rental options and prices from 30 dollars per hour.
In Park Township a clash between Trustee Jeff Hoekstra and Township Manager Howard Fink led the board to approve a communications policy by a 4-3 vote. The policy allows Fink to ignore Hoekstra’s emails and directs Hoekstra to obtain township information from the clerk’s office. The dispute began after Hoekstra’s November return and has included public and private criticisms from both sides. Supervisor Jim Gerard said resolution attempts failed and legal counsel advised the new rule.
