Bus driver averts disaster as bus burns near Holland
Today in history notes a quick thinking Holland bus driver diverted a potential catastrophe on U S 31 near the Starlite theater. A Holland Furnace Co land cruiser caught fire, evacuating 14 Kompen dancers and four adults returning from Chicago after performing before the International Lions Club Convention. The interior was gutted while the exterior shell burned. The girls had performed before more than 20 000 convention visitors at Chicago Stadium. Other historical marks include Calvin's birth in 1509 and Wyoming's 1890 statehood.
