Newsom taps Padilla for US Senate in historic appoint
California Gov. Gavin Newsom named Secretary of State Alex Padilla to fill the remainder of Kamala Harris term making Padilla the state first Latino senator. Padilla 47 said the appointment marks a point of pride and reflects immigrant family work in the United States. Newsom also announced nominating Shirley Weber to be the next state elections chief.
