Haworth plant in Douglas razed and city eyes catalyst site

The former Haworth furniture plant at 150 Blue Star Highway in Douglas was razed this week. The 7-acre site, idle since 2014 and once the city’s largest taxpayer, is owned by Douglas and eyed for redevelopment amid past PCB and trichloroethylene concerns. City officials call the cleanup and clearance pivotal for a new catalyst development phase as they plan future uses.

Judge allows immigration status records in Sunrise Acres COVID suit

Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Jon Hulsing ruled that documents on immigration status work authorization and tax returns are relevant in Castaneda Sanchez et al. v Sunrise Acres Egg Farm. The suit, filed by three former Hudsonville workers, alleges improper COVID-19 protocols led to illness and missed work. Plaintiffs seek damages while Sunrise Farms argues the records are basic and necessary to determine lost income. plaintiffs plan to appeal. Sunrise Farms has operated in Hudsonville since 1949.
