Michigan moves to lure EV plants with new incentive bills
Lawmakers fast track a three bill package aimed at attracting major electric vehicle plants to Michigan using federal stimulus funds. The measures create the SOAR Fund, the Michigan Strategic Site Readiness Fund, and the Critical Industry Fund to streamline incentives and speed site readiness, backed by Gov. Whitmer and key business groups. The House approved all three bills 83-21, with bipartisan support and some opposing lawmakers offering amendments that were rejected.
