Santa Fe Plans Major Southwestern Rail Expansion

Santa Fe will invest heavily this summer in new branch lines across the Southwest. The Osage County & Santa Fe Railway will run 65 miles from Owen to Ralston via Pawhuska, Oklahoma, linking oil fields and shortening routes from Oklahoma City to Kansas City and Chicago. It includes steel bridges and a costly traverse of broken terrain. The Barton County & Santa Fe will add 35 miles to reach Kansas wheat country, connecting Holyrood and Galicia with low costs around 20 000 dollars per mile plus equipment. A third line is surveyed from Satanta, Kansas to the state line, with ROW secured. The Minkler Southern near Lindsay, California will extend to Porterville through lucrative orange groves, enabling direct carload shipments to Santa Fe fruit terminals in Chicago. Additional progress is noted on branches Shattuck to Spearman and Lubbock to Seagraves. Construction of the Kansas City to St. Louis extension continues.
