Railroad survey starts in Holbrook to chart Big Pine forests route

Corps of Engineers began early week work in Holbrook to survey a railroad route into the southern Navajo county pine forests. The project is backed by capitalists, with surveys completed, rights of way secured, and money reportedly in banks for construction. Surveys are underway, camps established, and auto trucks deployed to haul supplies as preliminary work proceeds.

New Brook Town Council Holds Brief Organizing Meeting

Helbrook organized its town council Tuesday in Councilman W H Chamberlin's office. Members present were Chamberlin Hennessey Flanigan and Diverbess with Cooley absent. Clerk B B Neel recorded the minutes of a brief session ahead of the regular monthly meeting.

Old Timer Hance Visits Holbrook and Snowflake Praise

Camp Verde's Geo. M. Hance toured Holbrook with two loads of cattle for Joe Dent and then traveled Navajo county on the 9th through the 11th renewing old ties. He lauds Snowflake’s homes schools and churches while noting pioneer deaths and that many locals wed and raise families. He claims Snowflake has many pretty girls per square acre and jokes about a difficult love problem with one.

Road Bonds Sold by Navajo County Officials

The Navajo county supervisors sold a $160 000 road bonds issue to Powell Garard and Co of Chicago at par plus accrued interest minus a $10 600 discount covering attorneys fees engraving and other expenses. The 5 percent rate equates to 5.37 percent after the discount, a strong showing in a weak market. The supervising body also appointed a highway commission including John R Hulet W H Burbage J J Soumway John Nelson E J Marty and aides Richard Schuster and Edna Schuster attended a double wedding in Albuquerque for Beatrice and Ruth Iffeld with Leopold Meyer and Ale Ach.
