A. A. Gargan district commercial manager of Western Union visited Hobbs Monday and announced changes in operations. Public hours are extended to 7 30 a m to 9 p m daily with Sunday 8 10 a m and 4 6 p m. Mrs Bess Harrison becomes assistant as the office adds staff while business improves continually.
B A Oden of Pecos stopped in Hobbs on Tuesday marking a long interval since his 1884 visit. He recalled three settlers then between the Colorado River and Pecos, two buffalo hunters at Monument. Oden, who settled at the San Simon ranch site and lived nine years, toured the area with guide Jack Heard.
DeWill Reid of Vogue Hobbs, new to the city from Littlefield, reports strong store business and aims for aggressive methods. He praises the community and its broad trade clientele. Mayor Emmett Starch and Mrs. Starch depart for health in Hot Springs then plan to attend the Democratic state convention in Albuquerque Monday.
State Highway Engineer Macey and District Highway Engineer Eccles arrived Tuesday night. Macey proceeded to Jalk for a brief survey of highway work and plans in that section. The official visit may accelerate highway project work in this vicinity.
Mr and Mrs T B Suddreth and Mr and Mrs Glen Bish traveled to Artesia Tuesday evening for an old scout gathering. Social features included a dance for visiting attendees.
A. M. Spencer, formerly Lea-Mex Development Co. manager, arrives as a business visitor from Santa Fe and is now the manager of a large New Mexico construction company.
Rev and Mrs C S Walker spent Thursday in Roswell for a banquet and services at the Methodist Episcopal church honoring Bishop az.
Miss Billie Suddreth has enrolled as a student in special courses at Texas Tech and will leave for Lubbock about October 1 to begin her studies. Mrs. Maude Hamby Benton is here from Los Angeles, formerly Hobbs, owner of several improved properties. Will Jackson of Jackson Horne Grocery Co. went to Lubbock Tuesday on business for his firm.
Mies Jane Murray travels to October to enroll at iLabbock ter Texas Tech for a special course study opportunity.

Dr C S Stone rushed to a Carlsbad hospital with Mrs Fritz Lubos who suffered a broken leg, crushed arm, and injuries after being found on the Eunice road. Fritz Lubos, her husband, was arrested near the scene for questioning after a search found him five miles away. he is a truck driver and denies knowledge of the incident. The case awaits an examining trial. Jimmie Neally left Continental Supply to go to Texas for college.
