Rowan Penrose well points to new oil pool

East of Lea county Rowan and Will Cary No. 1 in section 22-22-37 flowed oil after a cracked control head. The well bottomed at 3555 feet and produced after initial tests, with several new sites announced nearby including Gypsy and Renollo initiatives. Multiple wells reported varying results from oil to water as operators evaluated production potential.

Hobbs Goodfellow Club Formed For Charity Drive

The Hobbs Goodfellow Club took shape at a Wednesday high school meeting led by the American Legion Post. Geo White named general chairman and George Harris treasurer to organize community needs surveys, fund raising, and distribution to the needy via the Hobbs PTA. A $76 fund was started with $25 from the Legion and $35 from the PTA, plus individual gifts. A merchants drive will begin Monday to solicit contributions and offer membership cards. Funds aim to aid needy families at Christmas with any excess used for future charities.

County Teachers Meet Here Today

Lea County Teachers Association holds an all day session with sectional meetings starting at 9 a.m. Dr. G. P. Hammond of the University of New Mexico will speak at 7:20 p.m. Sessions include a rural teachers meeting 11:30 to noon and a music program with Hobbs and Lovington schools.

Toy Matinee at Rig Theatre Sponsored by RIG

A Toy Matinee will be held at the Rig theatre Saturday morning at 10 o clock. Manager Wayne Patterson announced that any child will be admitted with a new or broken toy. Broken toys will be repaired by Hobbs High School students and given to the needy by Hobbs PTA. Short subjects including comedies and travel will be shown.

Dollars to Doughnuts stage set for school play

The Junior Class presents Dollars to Doughnuts a Glen Hughes production in the high school gym Wednesday December 18 at 745 pm. A three act royalty comedy about rich and poor parents courting two daughters with youth cast including Flossie Hill Hortense and Reverend Piggott.

City Files 30 Occupation Tax Suits for 1935

City Attorney John R. Brand filed thirty suits this week for nonpayment of city occupation taxes for 1935. The deadline had passed weeks ago, but suits were filed by Wednesday as the office prepares papers and more than twenty suits remain to be filed. Mrs Arch Clew left Wednesday.

Headman West Tagged as Local Hotel Riot Target

Fred West described as headman at a Fort Worth hotel caused a disturbance on the second floor when Constable Kerley intervened. West fought to retain control, rammed toward the lobby, and collapsed at the stairfoot. He questioned who “headman” really was after the incident.

Benefit Tourney Aids Hobbs Christmas Fund

The Hobbs PTA staged a Bridge and Forty Two tournament Monday night in the High School gym to raise funds for Christmas baskets. About 125 guests attended, with net proceeds around 35 dollars to aid needy Hobbs families.

United States Senator Dennis Chavez arrived Friday and departed Saturday, hosting a banquet at the Harden Hotel. A crowd of more than twenty local businessmen gathered as Chavez spoke, with several impromptu remarks from local men.

Funeral services for A. J Pioneer Sepamore a 52 year old rancher of Seminole were held in the afternoon from the local church in Seminole. Reference is made to Mr Dow visiting the Mars ranch near Seminole and tending yearlings in the late afternoon from his horse around 5 p.m.
