The steamer Hilonian Johnson of the Matson line arrives from Seattle and Honolulu on its initial trip at 4 pm. The ship, once Gaditano, now oil burning with a 347 foot length, will sail a triangular course with San Francisco as home port. July Fourth races preparations fast in Hawaii with fourteen Hawaiian bred horses in training and a baseball game featuring Pankow school from Honolulu against an Island pick team at the local diamond.
The Lei Mamo quintet club and Geo, HH, Williams represented Hilo at Kohala with opening exercises on Monday. They furnished music for Saturdays dance at Kohala Club and performed for visitors from Honolulu at Eben Low's home on Sunday. They also played at a farewell for Misa R Akana and provided Luau music Monday, with the group’s Monday evening dance drawing the crowd. The Honolulu party left Kohala Monday night to Aloha Oe, with composers named as A C Baker Wax K Ragsdale Henry Rose Umiumi Matwo Ben Brown Jr Chas Kalauo. The group praised Kohala hospitality and includes a long list of local attendees and well-wishers.

The year’s work at Hilo High School closed last Thursday with a concise review of studies. German recital by Misa Porter’s class and the Venice scene from Hogliah literature impressed observers. A blindfolded speed typing contest under Mr. Smith crowned Luela Keskoa at about 87 words per minute, Archie Wong Wai close behind. Richmond lauded the school’s effort, noting that local and mainland standards are met.
A California party arrived aboard the Kinau on Wednesday and visited Volcano Thurday. Members include Mr and Mrs Moore and Miss Jean Johnson of San Bernardino and others from Needles Ontario Gal and Honolulu. Some travelers returned to Honolulu by the Kinau Friday. Rehearsals for the Santiago play at the armory on July 3 and 4 are progressing well under Mrs A G Curtis.
