Bruce Grossman and Peter Fischer, on 15 day leave from Long Beach Naval Base, drove a Studebaker Silver Hawk land Cruiser from Long Beach, California to Hillside New Jersey, totaling 55 hours 10 minutes. They failed to beat Vincent Farrari’s 53 hour record, though claim the Teenage Record due to their ages. Car performed well. fuel economy exceeded 22 mpg with four quarts of oil used. The Hillside Auto Sales Service Department inspected the car and recommended new spark plugs for the return trip to Long Beach next month.

Miss Jean-Rae Turner of the Daily Journal urged preserving the Elizabeth Park area behind the Hill Jumping Station as a wild life and plant study spot. She advised widening the foot path to three feet and creating a study area for students and scouts near Hillside Bird Sanctuary where 175 birds have been seen. The proposal accompanied a Hillside Township history talk and was introduced by Superintendent Dr Wayne T Branom.
