Rescue Men in Smoky Fire Save Unconscious Resident
Firefighters led by Captain Jack Kimmel and Patrolman Norman Woitkowski rescued Wayne Hietal from a blazing second floor bedroom at 228 Silver Ave. The 2 a.m. blaze was confined to the room. Hietal was treated at St. Elizabeth hospital after oxygen was given to him and to the rescuers.

Fire Fighters Respond To Kiwanis Speech On Police Issues

Broad St. Businesses Ransacked In Morning Break-ins
Three Broad Street businesses were entered and ransacked overnight. Monarch Motors at 1477 N Broad St and Herbert Chevrolet Motors at 1465 N Broad St showed damage from forced entries. Berge Parigian reported his Matawan office ransacked with cash, checks, a typewriter, and an 18 inch portable TV missing. Police also checked another break at Monarch Motors and the Herbert building with varying evidence.

Youth Injured By Car On Liberty Ave Intersection
Vincent Anzaldo, 15, of 271 Gertrude St., was injured Saturday afternoon after being brushed by a turning car at Liberty Ave. and Bloy St. He received treatment for arm and leg injuries from Dr. Joseph Peyser, police physician. Driver Mrs. Tillie Silverstein, 50 Salem Rd., Union, said she did not realize she touched the youths. Vincent was taken to the doctor’s office by police.

Michael Davis 29 of 78 Carolina Aves Newark was found in a coma after a beating by three assailants on Hillside Ave at Franklin St. Officers arrested Clinton Perrin 20 Irvington and Michael J McAndrew 20 Irvington for atrocious assault and battery. Perrin and McAndrew released on $1000 bail each for Municipal Court on Oct 10. The third suspect fled. Davis and Perrin treated at St Elizabeth Hospital.
