Dischler Favors Firemen Pay Hike

Township Committeeman Louis Dischler advocated equal pay for firemen and patrolmen at a Honorary PBA meeting after a $500 police raise was approved in a referendum. Firemen reportedly accepted a $200 increase offered by the Township Committee, while police rejected that amount. Mayor Di Buono backed a $500 raise if the budget allows, noting top officers would rise to $6,200.

First PAL Card Party Set For Hillside Nov 2

About 300 tickets have been distributed for the first annual card party to be held at 8 p.m. Monday November 2 in the Hillside PAL Building. Jack Valenti chairs tickets and posters have been sent to merchants. Gifts for each table are being arranged by William H. Buie Leonard Cohen and Mrs Elizabeth McCraith. Ickels are available at the PAL Building Police Headquarters or from Henry Groh at Hillside National Bank. Stanley Rubin of Harden Locker School will instruct a volleyball. Registration will determine game times and final plans are set for Tuesday at the building.

Ballroom Dancing Class Openings At Recreation Commission

The Recreation Commission continues to accept registrations for ballroom dancing classes begun last year. Tuesday sessions are underway and Wednesday openings remain once 30 couples register. Shop-Rite Market Planned for Hillside Front at North Broad

Shop-Rite Markets plans a 32 000 square foot store on the J F Chapman parcel at 1303 North Broad Street Hillside. Owner David Evans confirms parcel size 200 by 500 feet with 125 parking spaces and a 17 000 square foot store plus 15 000 square foot basement. Demolition of the current engineering building and a planned major subdivision for several lots precede the project with a public hearing to be announced.

Noted hypnotist to headline Bnai Brith meeting

Vor Bnai B'rith Willside Lodge 1514 announces world famous hypnotist Howard Klein will headline the November 21 meeting chaired by Sam Gaines. The program recalls Klein hypnotizing a German submarine captain during World War II to learn naval information, linking the magic of hypnosis to radio audience influence. Remedial Reading Workshop At Local Schools

Dr. Wayne T. Branom secured Prof. Ethel Wolfe of Rutgers University to lead remedial and other reading instruction sessions. The first session occurred in the Administration Building with teachers, department heads, and principals. Wolfe outlined the plan at the Teachers Association meeting, with sessions set for November 29 and December 13 and more to follow.

Four Vacancies on Board of Education Declared

Four of the nine seats on the Board of Education will be decided in the February 14 election. Three three year terms and one one year unexpired term will be filled. Incumbents Thomas A.
