90 Bikes Roll To Inspection In Hillside Campaign

Hillside Kiwanis Club led a Saturday bicycle inspection with about 900 bikes checked and registered at A. P. Morris Calvin Coolidge George Washington Hillside Avenue and Harden Looker schools. Each bike got Scotchlite tape safety marks and a Bicycle Club of America membership card plus a care and safety booklet.

Industrial Association Forms Committee on Community Trust Fund

Hillside Industrial Association formed a special committee chaired by Harry A. Cooper to study creating a community trust fund. A $1,000 pledge from James A. O’Neil launched the fund. The panel discussed fund aims, possible scope, benefits, and use for capital improvements, with a Mt. Vernon example cited. Italian-American Club Being Formed in Hillside

Nearly seventy five attendees gathered last week to plan the Italian American Club of Hillside. The meeting at Tobia's Appliances basement aimed at social and fraternal fellowship with politics excluded. Anthony D Amiano and Mithadi Tobia were elected to lead an eleven member committee to finalize plans, with a follow up meeting announced soon.

Play Directors Named By Board

Playground directors and assistants for eight summer playgrounds to open Monday June 16 for ten weeks were appointed by the Board of Recreation Commissioners. Directors earn 48 dollars weekly for 5.5 days. assistants 40 hours weekly at 40 dollars. Locations include Central Avenue Conant Street Coe Avenue and Hillside Avenue schools.

Junior Achievement Co Wins Elizabeth Daily Journal Trophy

The Myco Chemical Co a Junior Achievement unit sponsored by Bristol-Myers Co makers of Golden Touch Shampoo won the Elizabeth Daily Journal Trophy at a Bristol-Myers plant luncheon. The Hillside High School group operated last October meeting weekly learning the American business system, selling stock buying materials, and now liquidating with a 40 percent dividend.

Hillside High School seniors set a precedent by electing girls to every officer position. Dortthy Lukashinsky won the presidency over two male rivals, Rosa De Santi became vice president, Audrey Schuster was elected secretary, and Sue Keil took treasurer.
