Newark Airport poised to reopen despite municipal opposition

The National Air Transport Coordinating Committee urges the Port Authority to reopen Newark Airport for limited commercial traffic. Hillside High School Gains Noted Scholarship Recognition

The editorial salutes Hillside High School for multiple scholarships won by the graduating class and commends the school and Board of Education for advancing the institution. It notes the college Sparse is on par with top schools and cites admissions to Yale Johns Hopkins and others as evidence of strong preparatory training.

Flag And Pole Dedication Opens Memorial Day Services

Memorial Day events centered on the dedication of a flagpole and flag at the War Veterans Memorial Building. The Hillside Rotary Club donated the flag and pole. William O. Hebler urged veterans to unite for their group and nation. Col. Harry J. Luftman reported $16,000 raised for the building and over $5,000 in gifts. A parade followed with many veteran and civic groups, led by Arthur Mueller as grand marshal.

Dental Degree For Former Resident Aronson

Sanford W. Aronson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Archibald H. Aronson of Montclair formerly Hillside, graduates magna cum laude from Maryland University Dental College ranking fourth in a 103 member class. He earns the Herbert Friedberg Award and Alpha Omega Fraternalism Award and is elected to Omega Kappa Upsilon. He will enter the Air Force dental unit as a first lieutenant after graduation. His brother, Aviation Cadet Morton J. Aronson, serves as radar observer at Ellington AFB in Texas. The brothers attended Saybrook School.

Allentown June 22 Two Hillside men Benjamin Schatman and Edwin L Rothfeld earned Bachelor of Science degrees at Muhlenberg College commencement on the campus. Schatman chemistry major chaired student groups and earned Dean’s List honors while Rothfeld class valedictorian presided over the Pre Medical Society and played intramural basketball.

Planning Board designates sites for municipal center and park
