Forecasts Noise Of Jets To Exceed Present Din
Experts at the Acoustical Society of America meeting warned jet transport planes will raise noise to a sizeable irritation level over an area about twenty times larger than today. Dr. Leo Beranek of MIT analyzed jet noise patterns from takeoff, noting larger areas of irritation for six and four engine jets and turbo props, with New York City likely affected depending on winds and runways. A Columbia student voiced concern over La Guardia and Columbia, while Beranek proposed countermeasures including out-of-phase pulse tech and ducted propellers to reduce noise.
