Governor Hughes backs Newark Airport as major facility
The Elizabeth City Council transcript notes Gov Richard J Hughes reiterates Newark Airport must remain a major airport to sustain New Jersey’s economic growth. He rejects plans to relegate Newark to a secondary role or introduce a future jetport, emphasizing the economic stakes over local noise and crashes. He and supporters argue safeguards are necessary, but the core issue is maintaining a major terminal to preserve transport and commerce.
