Hillside Library Tests Sunday Hours For Two Weeks
The Hillside library launches a Sunday four hour pilot starting March 14 to assess demand. Initial Sunday drew about 270 patrons who borrowed 418 books with 13 new registrations. Staff will monitor patronage as the board weighs permanent Sunday hours.

Four Nabbed in Narcotics Raid on Maple Ave
Four persons were arrested at 7 50 p m last Friday at 1600 Maple Ave for possession and sale of drugs. Marilyn Fayertag 23 of Irvington Joseph 21 of Campfield Ave and Nell Van Wattegen 24 of Secaucus and Donna Augustine 21 of Maple Ave faced charges including growing marijuana possession and sale. Detectives Milburn and Messana with patrolmen and a police matron conducted the raid. Bail ranged from 25 to 3500 with appearances set for April 29 in Municipal Court.

Fire at Luciani Home Tied to Faulty Wire
A smokey fire at 124 Virginia St. started Wednesday from a defective electric wire in the Luciani residence. The family escaped before firefighters arrived. the blaze confined to the rear cellar and required entry with air packs, booster lines, a hydrant connection, and a smoke ejector. Deputy Chief Marsnick and Captains Muench and Lamond led the scene.

Two Teens Rob Stop and Shop with Gun
Two youths fled a Stop and Shop at 1605 Maple Ave after a robbery at 12 52 p.m. last Thursday. A pistol was used to threaten manager Samuel Matthews as cash from two registers was placed in a brown bag and the pair ran toward Gruman Ave toward an unknown destination.

Zakovic Affair Is Sold Out

Man Jumps From Bridge On Central Ave Overpass
Andrew Lazarick, 49, of 24 Vine Street, climbed a guard rail on the Central Ave overpass and leapt from the viaduct over the Lehigh Valley Railroad. He was injured with possible pelvic and left ankle fractures and taken to St Elizabeth Hospital. He refused to explain his actions.
