State Mediator Urges Talks To Fact Finding
Lawrence I Hammer state mediator urges the Hillside Education Assn and the Board of Education to pursue fact finding after a second contract reopening meeting failed to reach a conclusion. Each side will name five PERC selected fact finders for about a month of meetings. Nonbinding salary and benefits recommendations may still be offered.

Hillside Democratic Club honored Commissioners Charles Mancuso and Albert Parsonnel at a March 13 dinner dance at the Lynn Restaurant Elizabeth. Hillside raid arrests four on gambling charges
Four people were arrested in Hillside last Thursday on gambling charges. William Whittle, 40, of 160 Virginia Street, faced conspiracy to operate a lottery and maintaining premises for bookmaking. Lorraine Ann Flynn, 27, of 129 Sterling Avenue Jersey City, faced conspiracy to operate a lottery. James E. Dwyer, 32, of 49 Pine Grove Terrace Newark and James E. Hull, 30, of 15 Smithfield Road Whippany, were charged as disorderly persons. The raid at 162 Virginia Street was led by Detective Sgt. Richard Mason and Deputy Police Chief Arthur L. Seale, with Sgt. Lawrence Stern, Detective Anthony Messano and Patrolman Richard Cann assisting. Whittle was held on $10,000 bail. the others were released in their own custody pending Municipal Court appearance.

Hillside Week Waste Paper Drive and Local News Briefs
Community events include a waste paper drive sponsored by Lina Sisterhood on Sunday March 21 at the Hillside youth center Clark Street entrance and a March 22 high school meeting for new resident parents. Police reports list thefts, vandalism, a held up scene, a juvenile offense, a stolen hubcap, and a liquor theft with local addresses and times.

Hillside Club Plans Second Golden Garbage Day Drive
The Environmental Science Club of Hillside will hold its second Golden Garbage Day on April 14 to recycle newspapers bottles aluminum and tin cans. Dan Rosenberg president leads the effort with Frank Dee and Dave Lobe assisting. The first drive on November 14 1970 faced limited success with citizens dropping items at homes or drives requiring participants to visit private residences.

Women injured when two cars collide at residential driveway
Robert I. Ginsburg 57 of 415 Hollywood Ave backed from his driveway in a Gordon Bass Co. vehicle and was struck by Mrs. Florence Epstein 34 of 850 Westminister Aves. Epstein said Ginsburg sped from the driveway into her path. Epstein and her passenger Mrs. Frances Weintraub 45 of 331 Hollywood Ave sustained facial and knee injuries but refused ambulance and planned to visit their own doctors.

Strikes Pole, Gets Summons
Nancy C. Scott, 38, of 328 Peskine Ave Newark was issued a summons for driving without a license after her car on Route 22 struck a pole. She swerved to avoid a hole, the car overturned, and she and two passengers, Cassandra Ann Scott 11 and Charles Scott 9, sustained injuries.
