Fire Captain Kenneth Trousdell of the township fire department, after 25 years of service, was granted retirement by the Township Committee on Tuesday night. He will receive one month severance pay and retire effective August 1. Trousdell previously served six years with the Volunteer Firemen from 1921 to 1927.

A large fire at the Dantel Leeds Miller Inc coal property on North Broad Street destroyed a frame building and $3,000 worth of monument-cutting and sand-blasting equipment. The blaze, which originated in Henry Mayer’s monument works, also consumed carbide drums owned by Pioneer Oil Co. An air compressor exploded, sending a fireball into the air and drawing crowds from nearby bridges and rail area.
