Hillside Eyes New Water Project with North Jersey Commission
Hillside may join a new soft water supply under the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission, similar to the Wanaque project. Mayor Milton B. Conford said discussions with the commission in Wanaque show Hillside could gain a participating membership in a reservoir system, with location details kept confidential for now. Other municipalities including Newark Elizabeth Irvington and Bayonne show interest as formal petitions are filed. The township’s preliminary planning cost is capped at 2500 dollars, and officials stress careful, long term planning and follow up to secure a cheaper softer water supply.
